Doctors did Unbelievable task at PGI Chandigarh


Chandigarh: Doctors of PGIMER (Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) did the unthinkable task in only 5 hours. The hospital gave new lives to 11 people via three green corridors. The organs of two brain dead persons were used to save lives of 11 another persons. Two hearts and a liver were transported via air from PGIMER Chandigarh to Delhi and Noida via green corridor in 5 hours.

Green Corridor is a special transport link without any stoppage. The travel route of the organs was non-stop. Jagat Singh(45) of Maloty village, Sirmour district, was declared brain dead after a fall from height on April,5. His heart was sent from PGI to AIIMS, Delhi for matching with the recipient and his liver was sent to GB Pant Hospital in New Delhi for matching another patient who needed liver.
Another case was of Nancy Sharma of Paonta Sahib. She was 32 and died due to cardiac arrest on April 5. For 24 days, she was on ventilator. Her heart was sent form PGI to Fortis, Noida to save a life of person there who needed a heart. 

In addition to this kidneys of these both dead, will be used to treat four kidney failure patients at PGI Chandigarh. Also their corneas (part of eye) of both will be used to provide sight to 4 blind persons at PGI itself. In this was doctors used organs of these two persons to give new lives 11 patients. Thanks to families of these two dead persons who agreed to donate their organs.
